I’m gonna give iMeem some major love in this post. The YouTube video of this song is not embeddable and I can’t find an mp3 to save my life. Neither Hype Machine or Elbo.ws has it. Thankfully iMeem came to the rescue with embeds of both. You may be my backup sweet iMeem, but you’re a fine one at that.
Now let’s talk about the actual music. Lenka has given us an adorable song with just the right balance of pop and twee to appeal to lots of people. It apparently appealed to the people at ABC because they threw it in their Ugly Betty promo. This is making me think that the trend of girl singer-songwriters will continue, but take on a little indie/twee edge to freshen things up. Sarah Bareilles and Colbie Caillat are nice and all, but I think people want something a little different if all this estrogen is going to keep on going…
And here’s the Ugly Betty promo:
The single of “The Show” was released this past Tuesday, July 29th on iTunes and Lenka’s debut album will come out on September 23.

Cute videos - still a little too cutesy for me, to be honest - as is much of the music coming out of Australia…
An artist along the lines of what you describe in your post (indie-edge female singer-songwriter) is a girl named Meiko (http://www.myspace.com/meiko) — yes, another five-letter, one-named chick artist, but her DIY attitude has taken her pretty far…
Over 200,000 song downloads on iTunes with no label help - she finally did a record deal with MySpace/DGC and her album will be released August 5 on iTunes and September 9 in regular old CD shops…
Check her out!

She did two albums as the singer for an Australian band called Decoder Ring, which were pretty good. Don’t know what they’re up to these days though since they started out as an instrumental band.
