If you guys remember (of course you don’t), this was a band I stumbled upon at SXSW and was pleasantly surprised. They just released a new album and this is the first single. Still liking what I’m hearing. This band was started by former Okkervil River member Will Sheff. Weird that I’m not an OR fan, but I can’t complain about Shearwater. Take a listen and see if you feel the same. (Note: I am not being a blonde when you see that the song is called “Rooks” but the picture above clearly says Rook. The album is called Rook and the single is called “Rooks”. Confusing, I know.)

It’s not weird to like Shearwater but not Okkervil River. They sound nothing alike. Jonathan Meiburg is a hell of a songwriter, and ‘Rook’ is probably my favorite album of the year. I say probably because I got a couple of other big favorites, but it’s just so damn beautiful.
