You know a band is good when:
a) Their bassist quits the band the night before their show and they still rock the h out
b) They play to a BEYOND sold out crowd at the Troubadour and tickets for the next day’s “secret show” are going for at least $100 a piece on Craigslist
c) They play a TON of new material and the crowd does not stop dancing for one second
d) All of the above
If you don’t know the answer, then maybe you weren’t at The Kooks show last night. And you probably weren’t as choice b illustrated. Well, you missed a show. Probably in my top 5 shows of the year. The new stuff sounds amazing and this band just made it into my list of bands I never miss live. They were good at Coachella, but they were beyond entertaining at the Troubadour. All new bands should learn a thing or two from this one. They’ve got the songs, they’ve got the stage presence, and they’ve got the musicianship. Pretty much the entire package if you ask me. Their new album comes out on April 15th, so I’ll be counting down the days.
Here are some videos from last night’s show:
“Naive”
“Jackie Big Tits”
“Sway”
“Seaside”
I wish there were some videos of their new songs. They had this one that was something like “Do you wanna make love to me” that was a-ma-zing. The drummer went to town. Guess all we can do is wait…
