"Young Bride" by Midlake

Went to this show last night after winning some tickets (yay free stuff!). I got there a little late because I had a VERY important engagement to attend prior to the show… Halloween costume shopping. When I walked in, the band was playing a song I didn’t know to a somewhat full Fonda. They went on to play several more songs I didn’t know… a cover and some stuff off their first album (they have a first album?) which was not very good. Then they broke into this song - the first one I saw from Trials of Van Occupanther. God, this album is good. It made a lot of Top 10 for 2006 lists and attracted many a hipster alike. The good sign is that the band previewed a new song that will appear on their 3rd album… and it was definitely a good one :)

Who knew there was a video for this song? Not I said the fly…

Here’s a live video of the song for good measure:

And my observations about the band live:
1. They are definitely still a new band. Lot’s of quietness between songs/instruments not working… but still very fun/funny on stage.
2. The singer sounds so much like Rufus Wainwright it’s not even funny (not on the recorded stuff though… weird. Great voice.
3. Their drummer is gooooooood. Well they’re all good, for that matter. Met as jazz students in college for crying out loud.
