I got a last minute invite to a private Spoon concert last night thanks to my brother and it was awesome. I’ve never been the hugest Spoon fan. I have the old albums, but didn’t really delve deeper than the singles. When they played this song last night, I could have sworn it was an old song… it sounded so familiar. Then my alarm woke me up with this song being played on Indie 103 this morning! Shocker. And the DJ made a good point… it sounds like they’re trying to be Billy Joel. Which is not a bad thing. Let the licensing begin…
I swear this is “popular indie band discovery week” for me. I always gravitate towards the baby bands and ignore the behemoths of the indie world. But it looks like that’s changing. I mean, they can all live in my hard drive in harmony, right? But it certainly is an interesting phenomena. First Interpol, now Spoon… what’s next, The Editors (And yes, that is an encouragement to send me the album if you have it)?
