"The Get Go" by New Young Pony Club

It’s a little sad that I was more excited for all the great new music being released today than the fact that it’s my birthday. Whatever, it’s a chill birthday this year (gotta save it up for the big 2-5) and the releases today are a refreshing burst of life into the dull CD market that has been this summer. I’m sure they’re going to show up in my posts all week long so let’s take ‘em one at a time.

This band blew up (indie level) with their song “Ice Cream”. You probably heard it in some commercials. Finally their full length is released today. Since I scooped up a lot of mopey singer songwriter stuff this morning (i.e. Fionn Regan, Jesse Harris, St. Vincent), I decided this was a fitting soundtrack for the beginning of my b-day and listened to it while I got ready for work. While some tracks seem filler at first listen, or may need a few spins before they click, there were a few songs that popped off the bat. Even though this one has a chilled out loungey vibe, I liked it right away. “Get Lucky” is great too, but I believe I’ve already been hearing it on the radio.

Here’s a vid of “The Get Go” live/the band just dancing around:

And a refresher - “Ice Cream”:

New Young Pony Club - The Get Go (mp3) - I highly suggest downloading this b/c the live vid doesn’t do it justice…
