You know, I tried to stay away. I tried so hard. And I’m starting to break down…

First off, this band is on Capitol. That sounds harsh. But honestly, they sign either a) GREAT bands who they do nothing with unless they blow up on their own (poor Redwalls) or b) big huge duds who they promote down your throat despite the obvious lack of talent (one word - Chingy). While I was working there, it looked like this was of the latter distinction.

Saw them at Coachella and pretty much ignored the whole set. It was the end of the day and I was one of the die hards who got there at the beginning of the day… i.e. I was tired and sweaty. The VIP area was much more enticing.

So now, this song is played on Indie 103 all the time. The first line just grabs you. It really is a killer song. Maybe I was too hard on them. The posters for the new album still scare me (national geographic style “no, don’t eat that baby animal!”… which is also the album artwork)… And the new video is interesting (a lot of… slowness - almost to the point where you pull a Sopranos and think something is wrong with your Youtube. Ending with what I guess is a cool twist after some great LA bashing)… But if I can get past all my previous prejudices against this band, I’m sure I can get past these new ones as well.

Album drops July 10th…which is also my birthday! And the release date of some other great albums: St. Vincent, Justice, Spoon, etc. None of you should be stumped on what to get me
