How many readers did I just lose? Tight. Ok, well this song has been stuck in my head all week. Mostly because it’s the funniest nsync song there is. And I love how it’s all “we’re cool and futuristic talking about online chatting.”
I went to the Justin Timberlake show at Staples Center on Tuesday night. I hate to admit it, but I did see nsync perform back in the day. I wasn’t expecting exaaactly the same thing, but definitely the same level of entertainment. I know a lot of people rip on JT’s new album, but I really like a lot of it. I was expecting a performance to add more to the music. The performance did not add enough to the music. Now, I may not have gotten the best perspective, figuratively and literally (I was sitting 5 rows from the top of the arena), but I was expecting more than what I saw.
Basically, there was a round stage with some sheet/screens and Justin made his way around the circle dancing and singing while his image was projected onto the sheets. I think I would have preferred a normal end stage set up so that it could have been more of an entertaining show aspect. I give the boy credit for trying to get as close to his fans as possible (upon which they would scream bloody murder. definitely was not ready to handle that.), but I would have rather seen him perform more, rather than just let the fans go crazy over whatever he decided to bring to the table. Believe me, he could have just sat indian style in the middle of the stage for the whole show and girls still would have been clawing at him. OR I would have loved to see him rock the ish out of his music in a tiny little club (damn you house of blues).
The one really nice thing about this show was that it restored my faith in the music buying public. You hear so many people saying, “the music industry is dying…” However, it’s the RECORD industry that’s dying. Justin sold out Staples and had TONS of people still disappointed that they couldn’t get a ticket. I get so used to going to my tiny little shows with 40 people in the audience, so it was nice to be reminded of how powerful an artist/fan connection can be on a large scale.
Now, I don’t want to sound like I’m knocking JT. Still think he’s awesome, the show was definitely great. I just think that the biggest star at the time should make you drop your jaw at either a) how talented they are b) how entertaining they are, or preferably c) all of the above. I think Justin could have pushed himself a little further in both areas. Nice keytar solo though.

i think that jt is (c.) he is as talented and entertaining a musician that i have seen in a long while. i wish i could have been there. i think that i am going to get him to play stiltz next month, so we’ll get what we all want. i’ve been amazed by him for sooo long, i was indeed a fan of n’sync but I believe that was really just my amazement at the gargantuan entertainment icon that was jt (and jt only) in that shameful form of skinny birdfaced boy bander. keep on workin that weary blog, dear, i love it..
