So, things are a little different today. This isn’t Lindsey, it’s her brother, Ryan. She asked me to write the post for the day because, last night, I went to the Asobi Seksu/Tokyo Police Club concert in Seattle. They played at this Chinese dive bar called Chop Suey, which was kinda perfect for these two bands (I know, I know, they’re Japanese related bands, not Chinese, but it works). The opener was Pit er Pat, who I just recently discovered on XM. They’re like a jazzy, indie rock band. They sounded pretty decent and really chill, but we only heard a couple of their songs. Tokyo Police Club went on first, and I hate to say it (especially after hearing all the hype around them), but I wasn’t impressed. They sounded like a worse, Canadian version of the Strokes.
On the other hand, Asobi Seksu was AMAZING. They’re a Brooklyn-based group, that’s made up of three white guys and a Japanese girl singer. They had such a huge, all-encompassing sound that you can’t fully experience from hearing their albums. I believe the words my friend, Gillian, and I used to describe the experience were it’s like “being stoned even though you aren’t.” The best songs of the night were “Walk on the Moon”, “New Year’s”, and this song called “MBV,” which I can’t find anywhere now (I was sneaky and stole their setlist). Definitely go see them live before they get huge and their tickets sell out in 5 minutes.
Here’s the video for their single, “Thursday.” I can totally hear this song getting popular. So, check it out.
