"Got 2 Be Down" by Robin Thicke

“You can hate me now, but I won’t stop now.”

I think I may get hate mail for this one. Especially with a song title like this (Hey, at least it says “be” not “b”). But who knows, maybe I’m being too harsh. I actually really like this album! Yes, he’s Alan Thicke’s son (the dad from Growing Pains)… and that probably takes away all of his credibility. Then he has to go and rip-off JT’s style. Whatever, this album is more soul than dance. I originally wrote him off as a Danity Kane, Hillary Duff, Aaron Carter type (though his single off the first album was a good one), but then on Tuesday, when I was listening to the new releases, I was quite surprised by this little number. Sure, there are some songs on this album that I can definitely do without (”Complicated,” and pretty much everything from “Can U Believe” on), but there are some gems. Ok, I just realized, he should have split this into 2 albums and trashed one of them. Numbers 1-10 (with the exception of #2) make a strong album. The rest just confirm my initial suspicions of selling-outness.

Just looked at his website, which is impressive by the way, and he’s touring with John Legend? I may have to go to that one… So verdict - did I lose all my readers or are you guys enjoying this as well? Part of me feels like I’m going to be stoned for this and the other part of me feels like this album will be really big and I just shouldn’t be afraid of it. Don’t judge a book by it’s cover I guess… Judge it by it’s MySpace ;)

p.s. I couldn’t resist…

His Lost Without U song is really pretty - the kind of melody that gets stuck in your head. Although very Justin-like, bet it could be a hit. Looks like he’s playing w/some headliners, so could get some good exposure!
