"You Could Be Happy" by Snow Patrol

I’m picking this song b/c it’s one of my favorites off of the album… and wasn’t ruined for me during the concert I saw last night. This whole post is going to come off harsh, but I’m just being honest.

I was really excited for the Snow Patrol show - I had bought tickets way back before the show had been postponed and wanted to go so bad that I didn’t care that they were shitty seats (Reason #1 of why my opinion may have been affected - we were 2nd to last row). When the band took the stage, I was overwhelmed with how stiff they looked. The only things moving were their arms… in limited movement. Then every so often, they’d take a couple steps back but then jump right back to their mic stands like they’d get a ticket if they didn’t (Reason #2 - this is the exact opposite of Mute Math’s stage presence that I witnessed the night before and am still reeling from). Aside from this, the music sounded stiff too! There are very few instances where I prefer the recorded version to the live version (Only Imogen Heap comes to mind, and I’ve been told I was at an off show for her), but with Snow Patrol I did.

The cherry on top was the audience. It was lots of teeny boppers who screamed SO loud when they played “Chasing Cars” (OMG! Grey’s Anatomy, obvi!), a bunch of people who were trying really hard to be cool (Dude, nobody knows about Snow Patrol, I’m awesome), and almost everyone was exhibiting really bad white people dancing (I know, I shouldn’t talk… I DO NOT dance. If you know me, you know that… ballet back in the day, but nothing else) that made them look like they were in a cult where the only requirements were wearing clothes from a mall while vigorously shaking your body forwards and backwards (not in rhythm) and clapping (not in rhythm).

I’m so mad. I REALLY wanted to like the show, and kept giving it chances, but I was bored the entire time. Chris told me at one point he looked over and I had my leg up on the chair in front of me with my arm resting on my knee to prop my head up and looked like I might fall asleep at any second. I don’t want to sound like I’m bashing Snow Patrol or the people who love them, I think it’s great to get into what you love… but for me, Snow Patrol was not that. Hopefully I just caught them in a bad show…

so sorry Linds, I know how you like your concerts. They are a good band, so maybe can redeem themselves.
