"Kick, Push" by Lupe Fiasco

Did anybody else write this guy off as annoying reggaeton simply from his name? Yeah, I suck. I had heard this song months ago and LOVED it, but had no idea who it was by. This guy is GOOD. Guess I should go back to kindergarten… Don’t judge a book by it’s cover. tisk tisk.

Don’t judge a book by its cover especially if the author is Kanye West. Check out I Gotcha and Never Lies (the creepy chorus kinda sucks) as well. Bloomington Out.

Lupe Fiasco is one of the more unique hip hop artists to have come out in recent memory. A lot of his success has to do with being at the right place at the right time (Kanye and Jay-Z finding him), but he has a lot of talent. Amazing lyrical skills…like on I Gotcha where he rhymes about scents. Or Sunshine, one of my fave songs on the album, where he says some clever things like “I like you like a metaphor.” Just stuff like that. And he has some great producers.

I’m not exactly sure how successful his album will be. There arent that many songs on there that are true single material…but it’s still one of my fave albums of the year.

Yeah, this beat crosses over any generational preferences in music. Sure Linds, heard his song too for awhile here in Detroit, but also didn’t know who he was. But, if CMC likes him, he’s cool!
