"Modern Inventions" by The Submarines

How weird is it to go from a band that I could ONLY find on MySpace to a band that doesn’t even have a MySpace. That’s almost unheard of these days. Well, I bought the album so I didn’t have a problem hearing the music. And they have some clips on their website as well. I almost wrote this band off b/c I got them confused with the Subways. (I initially did the same thing with the Vines and the Hives - it all worked out in the end though as you can tell from the enthusiasm in my Vines posts). Thankfully I figured out that these guys were their own entity and gave them a listen. They’re quite good. A little mellow, but not so much that you’re falling asleep. For some reason, I feel like they have a 90’s alt-pop influence… I’m thinking Sixpence None the Richer (who I hear has a new album coming out?) or the Cardigans (frickin “Lovefool” and “My Favourite Game” were some cuts… I think that was one of my first albums!). Anywho, go listen to their website. I feel like this is a great album to just put on when you’re in a bind - it won’t annoy you, it’s not too different, it’s fresh sounding. Trust in the Submarines my friends… (p.s. Do they name drop the band We Are Scientists in “Vote?” Because that’s pretty cool…)
