"Envelopes" by Sleeping at Last

God, I love this band. It’s so sad that they were dropped from Interscope. I’m hoping it becomes a happy accident because they would be much better at a smaller label anyway. Their music is consumingly beautiful - listen to everything a few times and it will hit you more than it does the first. Their debut on Interscope is one of my favorite albums. I can always go back to it because it’s that good. For some backstory - this band somehow found a way to pass a demo on to Billy Corgan. He actually listened to it, called them, and got them a deal at the I. Then things blew up - they were plucked from their small town existence and put on tour with Switchfoot and then Yellowcard. When they didn’t sell a million units, they were dropped and now they’re releasing this new CD independently. The artwork, as always, is stunning. And the music sounds just as good. I’m hoping this isn’t the end of the road for these boys. I met them while working at Interscope and they were some of the nicest people you can meet. And their live show was even more impressive than the recorded stuff. Let’s cross our fingers that their following will stick behind them all the way to an indie deal and some good people representing them.
